Mega Steel Project in Andhra Pradesh to Create 1 Lakh Jobs

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has commenced work on a massive greenfield integrated steel plant at Rajayyapeta in Andhra Pradesh.
The project, which saw its foundation stone laid by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on March 23, 2026, represents a staggering investment of ₹1.36 lakh crore.
Massive Employment and Economic Upliftment in Andhra Pradesh
The most significant highlight of this venture is its potential to generate approximately 1,00,000 jobs through both direct and indirect roles.
The company expects this workforce expansion to span construction, plant operations, logistics, and advanced technological maintenance
To ensure a local talent pipeline, the company has signed agreements for skill development programs through NAMTECH, preparing the regional youth for high-tech roles within the steel industry.
This initiative is set to turn the Visakhapatnam Economic Region into a premier global manufacturing hub.

Scale, Infrastructure, and Phase-wise Development
Spanning 5,465 acres, the plant is designed for a total production capacity of 17.8 million tonnes of finished steel per annum.
The company will execute the project in two distinct phases, with the first phase targeting 7.3 million tonnes and the second adding another 10.5 million tonnes.
Beyond the core manufacturing facility, AM/NS India is investing an additional ₹11,198 crore to develop a captive port with a 50-million-tonne capacity.
This port alone is anticipated to create 6,000 supplementary jobs. It will also ensure seamless logistics via modern slurry pipelines for iron ore transport.
Aligning with National Steel Goals
The project aligns with India’s ambitious target to reach 300 million tonnes of crude steel capacity by 2030.
Industry leaders Lakshmi Mittal and Aditya Mittal characterized the plant as a landmark in sustainable manufacturing.
It utilizes modern infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency.
The State Government is fast-tracking essential utilities, including a four-lane road connecting the site to National Highway-16.
This ensures that the transition from foundation to full-scale production remains on schedule for the 2026-2027 fiscal cycle.
