Oracle Massive Layoffs Spark “Evil” Label from Impacted Families

Tech giant Oracle is facing a massive public relations crisis following reports of an impersonal and “ruthless” global layoff strategy.
While the company has reportedly cut approximately 30,000 jobs—including a staggering 12,000 roles in India—one specific case has ignited a firestorm of outrage on social media.
A long-serving employee, currently battling cancer, was allegedly terminated via email after two decades of service without so much as a phone call from management.
“These Companies are Evil”
The controversy gained traction after a heartbreaking post appeared on the r/employeesOfOracle subreddit.
A user shared that their father, who had worked for the same manager at Oracle for 20 years, received a 6:00 AM termination email informing him that his role was eliminated “effective immediately.”
The post highlighted a dire humanitarian concern: the employee is currently undergoing cancer treatment and is now facing the loss of his health insurance just two years shy of retirement.
“Not even a phone call. These companies are evil,” the user wrote, a sentiment that quickly went viral across LinkedIn and X.
The abruptness of the move, which saw employees locked out of systems within minutes of the notification, has been widely condemned as a “new low” for corporate empathy.

The AI Pivot and Financial Strain
The layoffs come as Oracle aggressively reallocates resources to compete in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure space.
To fund billion-dollar investments in data centers, the company is reportedly undergoing a “qualitative restructuring” to offset costs.
While Oracle’s official email thanked staff for their “dedication and impact,” the reality for many has been clinical.Impacted teams include:
- Cerner (Health Sciences): Continued cuts following the $28 billion acquisition.
- NetSuite & Cloud Infrastructure: Large-scale reductions at India Development Centres (IDC).
- Engineering & Sales: Global roles affected regardless of performance history.
Oracle Layoffs 2026: Impact in India and Severance Terms
India has emerged as a major impact zone, with roughly 40% of the total cuts occurring in the region.
Oracle is reportedly offering Indian employees 15 days of salary for every year of service, plus a two-month salary “top-up,” contingent on an amicable resignation.
However, for employees with chronic illnesses, the primary concern remains the sudden termination of medical coverage.
Advocates are now calling for “public pressure” to force Oracle to extend insurance benefits for terminally ill staff, citing similar successful campaigns against other tech firms.
