Swiggy & upGrad Partner to Educate 6.9 Lakh Delivery Partners

Swiggy has announced the launch of a massive upskilling program for its 6.9 lakh delivery partners.
Through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with upGrad, Asia’s leading integrated skilling and lifelong learning major, the initiative seeks to transition delivery executives from informal work into credible, sustainable career pathways by offering access to formal higher education and professional certifications.
The collaboration, which represents one of the largest structured skilling efforts for the last-mile workforce in India, is built on the premise that delivery executives—who play a vital role in the country’s economic engine—have long been excluded from formal upskilling avenues due to personal, financial, or time constraints.
Swiggy and upGrad Strategic Partnership and Scale
The program targets Swiggy’s extensive fleet of over 6.9 lakh frontline executives nationwide.
By leveraging upGrad’s robust tech-led online learning ecosystem, Swiggy aims to provide comprehensive educational access that was previously unattainable for this segment of the workforce.
Delivery partners will be able to explore and enroll in courses conveniently through the Swiggy Partner app or a dedicated digital portal, ensuring maximum accessibility regardless of their working schedules.
Saurav Goyal, Senior Vice President of the Driver and Delivery Organization at Swiggy, underscored the company’s commitment, stating, “Our delivery partners are one of the key pillars of the Swiggy business, and we are deeply committed to creating opportunities that support their professional growth. By combining formal upskilling opportunities with emerging tech certifications and soft skills training, this initiative empowers Swiggy’s vast frontline executives with access to credible, sustainable career pathways.”
A Multi-Faceted Learning Portfolio
The upskilling program is highly flexible and structured, offering a diverse range of educational choices with course durations spanning from as short as two weeks up to three years.
The curriculum includes two main components:
- Formal Higher Education and Certifications: Delivery partners gain access to university-certified degree programs and industry-recognized professional development certifications. Program designers specifically tailor these pathways for frontline workers seeking to enhance their qualifications for diverse career opportunities, both within and outside the gig economy.
- The ‘Career Udaan Pack’: A crucial component is a curated soft skills module that designers created specifically for last-mile delivery professionals. Named the ‘Career Udaan Pack,’ this curriculum focuses on essential workplace skills, including effective communication, digital fluency, workplace readiness, and confidence-building.
Swiggy Bridging Financial and Accessibility Gaps
Recognizing the financial limitations often faced by gig workers, a core feature of the partnership is making these academic pathways available at significantly reduced costs.
Furthermore, the program incorporates a provision for need-based scholarships to financially support those partners who require additional assistance, ensuring that talent and motivation—not economic barriers—determine participation.
Anuj Vishwakarma, CEO – Higher Education at upGrad, highlighted the broader impact, noting, “India’s demographic advantage can translate into true economic strength only if every section of the workforce—not just white-collar professionals—is empowered with access to quality education and job-relevant skills. This partnership with Swiggy isn’t just about bringing missed learning opportunities back, it’s about recognising the untapped potential of a workforce that’s ready to rise.”
Strategic Vision and National Imperative
The initiative aligns with the national goal of strengthening India’s skilled talent pool and recognizing last-mile workers as a critical part of the formal skilling ecosystem.
Swiggy views this as moving “beyond just convenience,” creating a sustainable ladder of opportunity that fundamentally elevates India’s collective “skilled advantage.”
By equipping their 6.9 lakh partners with credible qualifications and essential workplace skills, the program not only helps them move closer to formal employment opportunities but also contributes significantly to building a stronger, more future-ready economy.
This strategic investment in human capital sets a new benchmark for how large platforms can approach the welfare and career progression of their extended workforce.
