ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India Appoints Amit Harlalka as CEO

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has named Amit Harlalka as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will take charge on July 1, 2026, replacing Dilip Oommen, who will retire on June 30 after many years with the company.

Oommen has been with the company for over 20 years, including seven years as CEO. He helped steady operations and grow the business after the joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel was formed.

After retirement, he will stay connected to the company as a board member and will also serve as Vice-Chairman at ArcelorMittal India Private Limited.

Extensive Experience and Background

Harlalka is currently the Chief Financial Officer of AM/NS India. He joined the company in December 2019 as Deputy Director (Finance) and became CFO in January 2023. Before this, he worked in finance roles across ArcelorMittal’s global offices, including in Mexico, Zenica, and Luxembourg.

He is a chartered accountant and also has an MBA in Finance from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He started his career at Hindustan Unilever and brings strong global experience in finance.

Aditya Mittal, Chairman of AM/NS India and CEO of ArcelorMittal, said he is confident in Harlalka’s ability to lead. He pointed to Harlalka’s deep understanding of the business and his role in key growth plans, including work in renewable energy.

Harlalka said he is honored to take on the role and plans to focus on growth, safety, and making the most of the company’s future opportunities.

This change in leadership shows AM/NS India’s focus on steady progress and long-term growth as it builds its position in India’s steel industry.

About the Company

AM/NS India is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, set up in 2019. It produces high-quality flat steel and has a capacity of about 9–10 MTPA.

The company runs integrated operations from iron ore to finished steel. It serves the automotive, infrastructure, and energy sectors across India.
