In celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Marico has reaffirmed its commitment to creating an inclusive and empowering workplace for individuals with disabilities.

The company’s ethos of Transparency & Openness drives its inclusion process, leading to diversity as an outcome, which is a core pillar of Marico’s 4D Strategy.

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Amit Prakash, Chief Human Resources Officer, Marico shared his insights.

How does Marico’s ethos of Transparency & Openness shape its approach to Inclusion and Diversity?

At Marico, we have always nurtured diverse perspectives based on our ethos of Transparency & Openness. Hence for us, Inclusion has always been the Process leading to Diversity as an Outcome. Diversity is one of the four core pillars of Marico’s 4D Strategy to strengthen our journey towards Marico 3.0.

It is one of our core cultural fabric which drives innovation and powers progress; it is the belief on which we strive to build an inclusive workplace wherein each member can bring their whole selves to work.

At Marico, our ethos is built on fostering an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued and empowered to thrive. As part of our Inclusion & Diversity agenda, we have defined three key pillars of diversity: Gender, Persons with Disability and Thought Diversity.

What are the specific steps Marico has taken to build an inclusive culture and ensure equal employment opportunities?

We have always been committed to building an inclusive culture through sensitization, awareness session, and continuous monitoring of member experiences.

Over the years, we have made great strides in creating gender-neutral policies, offering same-sex partner benefits, and building disability-friendly infrastructure.

Our inclusive hiring policies focus on expanding campus pipelines, hiring members with disabilities through specific recruitment partnerships, and hence ensuring equal employment opportunities for all.

Can you elaborate on the WINGS initiative and its impact on creating opportunities for persons with disabilities at Marico?

Over the last year,  we have focused specifically on Women in Sales, New Mothers, Persons with Disability integration and have focused on building inclusion in specific teams through targeted interventions.

In line with this focus area,  we introduced WINGS, an initiative geared towards creating a consistent talent pipeline, nurturing individuals with disabilities internally, and nurturing members for higher order roles.

This year, Marico is celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the theme of ‘Equal Opportunity for Everyone for Perpetual Growth’ to share our gratitude to members with disability who have joined us and enabled our journey towards a more equal workplace.

We are urging all members of larger community to adopt ways of working and lay foundation of an equitable environment for all which is sustainable and perpetual.

What efforts has Marico undertaken to support persons with disabilities in their career growth and integration across functions?

We currently have members with disability across mid-to-senior levels in sales, manufacturing, and corporate functions.

With initiatives taken around training, skilling, and career support, our PwD members like all other members are nurturing their potential for higher order roles through continuous check-ins with mentors/supervisors.

As the next step forward, we are shifting our focus to identify specific needs of smaller, diverse cohorts and addressing those through niche customised solutions. We are committed to going beyond and foster an equitable workplace where everyone can thrive and lead.

How does Marico plan to further enhance its Inclusion & Diversity agenda in the coming years?

Marico aims to enhance its Inclusion & Diversity agenda by introducing customized solutions for smaller diverse cohorts, strengthening mentorship programs, and expanding equitable opportunities across all functions.

Thank you, Amit!
