Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has appointed Kedar Apte as Senior Vice President and Head of Charging Infrastructure for Auto and Farm Sectors, effective October 1, 2024.
Apte, who previously led international operations for the Farm Equipment Sector (FES), will now focus on establishing and managing M&M’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Reporting to both Hemant Sikka, President of Farm Equipment Sector, and Veejay Nakra, President of Automotive Division, Apte will oversee the creation of charging solutions for homes, offices, and public locations.
His team will work closely with M&M’s business units while leveraging the company’s Powerol network to expand charging capabilities.
M&M’s Ambitious EV Plans
M&M has aggressive plans to expand its EV portfolio, with at least six new electric models set to launch within the next two to three years.
Starting with the 3XO electric SUV, M&M will introduce ground-up battery EVs based on the Inglo platform, which will include models like the BE05, BE07, BE09, XUV e8, and XUV e9.
The company has already committed an investment of over Rs 12,000 crore into its EV SUV business. By early 2025, it plans to have a production capacity of 1.2 lakh EV units annually, with further scaling expected.
M&M aims for EVs to account for 20-30% of its total sales within the next 3-5 years.
Apte’s Extensive Experience
Before his new role, Apte was responsible for growing FES exports and managing M&M’s international subsidiaries in Turkey, as well as developing entry strategies for Thailand and Europe.
His vast experience includes leadership roles at multinational companies such as Unilever, Castrol BP, and Jio-bp, where he focused on marketing and reimagining mobility in India.
