Wipro has no layoff plans due to pandemic impact on business: Wipro Chairman, Rishad Premji

While addressing the 74th annual general meeting (AGM) IT major, Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji said, “So far, we have not laid off any employee and has no plans to retrench employees due to the Covid-19 pandemic impact on business.”

However, the company is driving cost-cutting measures at the back of the pandemic, he added, responding to investor queries.

He also said, “Safety and well-being of our employees are of paramount importance,” at the annual general meeting.

Recently appointed, Thierry Delaporte, CEO, and MD, Wipro, said he is “hoping to finalize the plan to drive improvements across all spheres” to achieve industry-leading growth.

“Profitable growth will be the most important priority on my agenda. We will do everything to regain momentum in the marketplace,” Delaporte told shareholders.

IT major Wipro employs about 1,82,886 employees and has employed work from home for more than 93% of them, only 7% are working from office during the current covid-19 crisis.
