Amidst challenging placement seasons, leading IT firms like TCS, HCLTech, and Accenture offer job opportunities to 2024 graduates, providing a much-needed relief to engineering colleges witnessing one of their toughest times in placements.

According to ET report, nearly 10% of VIT Vellore’s batch (9,000 students) have landed jobs, thanks to TCS. This sparks optimism at campuses like VIT, anticipating visits from additional companies in the upcoming weeks, as stated by engineering college officials.

Engineering colleges rely heavily on major IT firms like Infosys, Wipro, and TCS for significant hiring, often ranging from hundreds to thousands, typically occurring in September.

Dr. N Venkata Sastry, director of the career center at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, expressed relief as TCS, along with other IT firms, traditionally scheduled visits in September-October. However, TCS’s visit and recruitment closure in early February brought significant relief to their campus.

“We anticipate other companies to follow suit. Infosys’ process has commenced,” stated Dr. N Venkata Sastry. TCS has extended 410 offers this year across three profiles: Prime (₹9 lakh per annum), Digital, and Ninja (₹3-4 lakh per annum). Accenture has recruited over 150 students from SRMIST, with ongoing diversity hiring rounds at the campus, Sastry mentioned.

TCS offers Prime salary profiles for the first time at SRMIST and VIT Vellore, with VIT receiving over 900 offers, including 97 for Prime profiles.

“This is the highest in the country,” stated Samuel Rajkumar, director of the Career Development Centre at VIT Vellore.

He anticipates Infosys to recruit for the ‘power programmer’ profile this season. With a total batch of 9,000 students, VIT Vellore saw Accenture hiring over 180 students, with many receiving annual salary packages around Rs 12 lakh, Rajkumar confirmed.

Campus hirings have decreased compared to last year, but recent offers from major IT firms provide hope. In 2023, TCS hired over 3,500 students at VIT Vellore and recruited over 2,000 students at SRMIST.

TCS has confirmed their upcoming visit,” stated M.N. Guruvenkatesh, Senior Vice President of placements at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering. Last year, TCS hired around 100 students from the institute, but this year’s expectation is 50-60. Accenture has recruited 88 students, a slight decrease from last year’s 100+, he noted.
