Indian Railways Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have kicked off the financial year 2025–26 with a robust hiring push, issuing over 9,000 appointment letters in the first quarter alone.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the RRBs are on track to offer more than 50,000 jobs by the end of the fiscal year, marking one of the largest recruitment drives in recent years.
This surge in hiring follows the successful execution of Computer-Based Tests (CBTs) for over 1.86 crore candidates since November 2024, covering seven notifications and 55,197 vacancies.
Indian Railways Tech-Enabled Recruitment: Fairness and Accessibility at Scale
To ensure transparency and efficiency, RRBs have introduced several technology-driven reforms:
- E-KYC Aadhaar authentication was used for the first time in large-scale exams, achieving over 95% success in verifying candidate identities.
- Electronic jammers are now deployed at 100% of exam centers to prevent cheating via digital devices.
- Exam centers are being allotted closer to candidates’ residences, with special priority for female and PwBD candidates, improving accessibility and reducing travel burdens.
These measures reflect a broader commitment to inclusive and secure recruitment practices, especially as the scale of hiring continues to grow.
Future Outlook: 1 Lakh+ Vacancies and FY 2026–27 Plans
The RRBs have already issued 12 notifications since 2024 for 1,08,324 vacancies, as per their annual calendar.
With this pipeline in place, the Ministry expects another 50,000+ appointments to be made in FY 2026–27, sustaining momentum in public sector employment and infrastructure development.
Identity Verification Beyond Recruitment
West Central Railway, Bhopal, has introduced QR code-based identity verification using the mAadhaar mobile app.
This move aims to enhance passenger safety and curb unauthorized travel.
The initiative is designed to prevent the misuse of fake Aadhaar cards and tickets booked under false identities.
It will soon be integrated into Handheld Terminals (HHTs) to enable real-time verification.
Strategic Significance for Indian Railways Workforce Development
Indian Railways’ aggressive hiring strategy helps meet critical operational requirements.
It also supports national employment goals by creating opportunities for youth and underserved communities.
With digital safeguards and inclusive exam policies, the RRBs are setting a benchmark for large-scale, tech-enabled public recruitment.
