Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme in Rajasthan urban areas has provided jobs to one lakh individuals.

An official said that the jobs have been provided within 6 days of the launch. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on September 9 introduced a programme designed after the MGNREGA that will give families living in metropolitan areas 100 days of employment.

Rajasthan was the first state to introduce a programme similar to MGNREGA that would guarantee employment in metropolitan areas.

The officials have also said that the employment was being offered immediately in accordance with demand. The state government works hard to ensure that everyone has access to jobs.

According to the officials, the programme has produced job cards for 3,83,639 individuals for more than 2.45 lakh families. Additionally, 1,398,798 people from 96,452 families have applied for jobs so far.

According to the current scheme, the government will guarantee 100 days of employment in a year to needy families in urban areas.

This eligibility for the programme is for those between the ages of 18 and 60 who can apply. The state government has allotted Rs 800 crore for the first year.

The MGNREGA was launched by the UPA government at the Center for employment in rural areas, according to the chief minister, and it had a successful consequence.

According to a scheme official, the jobs provided under the scheme will provide the following wages:-

  • The wage for an unskilled worker has been set at Rs 259 per day.
  • The wage for a skilled worker is Rs 283.
  • Also within the allotted time wages will be paid to employees directly into their bank accounts.

By the plan, initiatives will be carried out to safeguard the environment, conserve water, preserve cultural heritage, maintain gardens, remove the encroachment, illegal sign boards, hoardings, and banners, and improve sanitation.
