An American multinational technology company, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has claimed that the ex-Googlers created 2,000 startups.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said, “Googlers have left to create over 2,000 startups, last I counted, and I think that’s great. Some of them are cloud customers down the line for us.”

“Some of them come back. I think it’s healthy,” Sundar Pichai added.

He further said, “Our work toward sharpening our focus—I view it as enduring work. We are constantly trying to make the company more efficient.”

During an interview with Bloomberg Pichai told, he sees this as a positive outcome and suggests that some ex-Googlers may even return to the company in the future. He also mentioned that his goal is to enhance the efficiency of the company.

“We should definitely make sure we’re focused on risks of bias or misinformation, safety incidents, and so on. There will be serious issues with deepfakes. We need to take it all seriously”, he added.

The CEO also conveyed that his company’s generative AI-based chatbot Bard lacks behind the competition in some areas while noting that these are very early days for the technology.

In January, Google parent Alphabet announced the sack of 12,000 employees. The company CEO took responsibility for the layoffs.

Earlier Google had announced to elimination or reduction of several perks, including some of the company’s micro kitchens.

This provided employees with free snacks like cereal, espresso, and seltzer water. The company was making changes in its companywide benefits as it seeks to reallocate funds and create cost-cutting measures.

The company has suspended the provision of snacks and staplers to employees and has also asked employees to share desks.

Recently, Google’s chief people officer, Fiona Cicconi, wrote an email to employees, “There’s just no substitute for coming together in person.”

“Of course, not everyone believes in ‘magical hallway conversations,’ but there’s no question that working together in the same room makes a positive difference. Many of the products we unveiled at I/O and Google Marketing Live last month were conceived, developed, and built by teams working side by side”, Fiona Cicconi added.

Fiona Cicconi further added, “The company will start including their three days per week as a part of their performance reviews and teams will start sending reminders to workers “who are consistently absent from the office.”

“For those who are remote and who live near a Google office, we hope you’ll consider switching to a hybrid work schedule. Our offices are where you’ll be most connected to Google’s community”, Fiona Cicconi added.
