Hindustan Zinc, India’s largest integrated zinc producer and one of the top five global silver producers, has revealed that 62% of its workforce is under the age of 35.

This demographic shift reflects the company’s strategic focus on building a future-ready, agile, and innovation-driven workforce.

The announcement was made in conjunction with International Youth Day, underscoring the role of young professionals in reshaping the traditionally conservative metals and mining sector.

The company launched its “Echoes of Tomorrow” campaign to celebrate this milestone, showcasing the energy, ingenuity, and impact of its youthful employees.

Through a brand film and internal engagement initiatives, Hindustan Zinc highlighted how its young workforce is contributing to engineering excellence, sustainability, and digital transformation.

Young Professionals Leading the Charge in Tech-First Mining at Hindustan Zinc

Hindustan Zinc’s young employees are at the forefront of several strategic initiatives aimed at modernizing mining operations.

These include:

  • AI-powered mineral exploration models that enhance precision and reduce environmental impact
  • Automation and digitalization of operational workflows to improve safety and efficiency
  • Sustainability innovations that align with global ESG benchmarks

The company’s leadership emphasized that these professionals are not just future leaders—they are active changemakers shaping the present and future of the industry.

CEO Arun Misra stated, “Our strength lies in being young at heart and agile in action—powered by a workforce that blends fresh thinking with a shared sense of purpose.”

Investing in Learning and Capability Building

In FY24, Hindustan Zinc recorded over 1.2 lakh hours dedicated to learning and development.

These training efforts focused on building employee skills in emerging technologies and sustainable practices.

The company’s people-first philosophy is reflected in its structured mentoring programs, leadership development tracks, and inclusive hiring policies.

Continuous learning is a cornerstone of Hindustan Zinc’s workforce strategy.

Managers and leaders encourage employees to pursue cross-functional roles, participate in innovation sprints, and take part in strategic decision-making.

This approach ensures that the organization remains competitive in a rapidly evolving industrial landscape.

Gender Diversity and Inclusion Goals

Currently, women comprise 25% of Hindustan Zinc’s workforce.

The company aims to increase this figure to 30% by 2030, supported by targeted initiatives such as:

  • Inclusive hiring practices
  • Structured mentoring for women professionals
  • Leadership development programs tailored to underrepresented groups

These efforts reflect the company’s broader commitment to equity and inclusion, positioning it as a progressive employer in the mining and metals sector.

Hindustan Zinc Breaking Industry Stereotypes

By placing youth and innovation at the center of its strategy, Hindustan Zinc is challenging long-held perceptions about the mining industry.

Industry observers have traditionally viewed the mining sector as slow to adapt and evolve.

Today, companies like Hindustan Zinc are redefining the industry by prioritizing technology, sustainability, and investment in human capital.

The “Echoes of Tomorrow” campaign celebrates the energy and contributions of young professionals.

It also reflects Hindustan Zinc’s long-term vision to build a resilient, tech-driven, and inclusive industrial ecosystem.
