Royal Philips, a frontrunner in health technology worldwide, has unveiled plans for a new R&D center in Pune, Maharashtra, as part of its Healthcare Innovation Centre (HIC) expansion, underscoring India’s rising significance in global healthcare innovation.

Positioned on a 10-acre parcel in MIDC, Chinchwad, the forthcoming facility is slated to encompass around 300,000 sq. ft of office space in its initial phase, accommodating a workforce of 1900.

This strategic move not only emphasizes Philips’ commitment to pioneering healthcare solutions but also highlights Pune’s emergence as a key hub for cutting-edge research and development, fostering advancements in healthcare on a global scale.

Inaugurating within two years, the upcoming center will house R&D units from Philips’ Image Guided Therapy, Precision Diagnosis, Monitoring, and Sleep & Respiratory divisions.

This integration aims to optimize scale, velocity, and efficiency, fostering resource and best practice sharing across sectors. Focused on pioneering health technologies, the center will play a pivotal role in advancing Philips’ worldwide objective of enhancing the lives of 2.5 billion individuals annually by 2030.

Bert van Meurs, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Leader of Image Guided Therapy, Chief Business Leader of Precision Diagnosis (ad interim), and responsible for Diagnosis & Treatment, said, “This new center will further strengthen our commitment to supporting the Indian healthcare ecosystem with innovative and sustainable solutions and leveraging the same for customers globally.”

Peeyush Kaushik, Vice President and Head of Healthcare Innovation Center, Pune, said “With the launch of this new centre, we will be able to design more innovative end-to-end solutions and collaborate better with healthcare providers as we look to meet our common goal of attaining better health outcomes.”

With a combined workforce surpassing 9000 individuals, Philips’ presence in India extends across multiple strategic hubs. The Healthcare Innovation Centre in Pune, the Innovation Campus in Bengaluru, the Global Business Services in Chennai, and the commercial team headquartered in Gurgaon collectively form the cornerstone of Philips’ operations in the country.
