In the current situation, many companies are offering Work From Home, or WFH. I had an opportunity to work from home for about 6 months during my tenure with one of the organizations.

I would like to share some of the mistakes that I did and I do not want you to do it.

  • Working in your home clothes – Pajamas -This is a big mistake. When you do not wear your work or formal clothes, psychologically, you are still at home and you may not have continuous enthusiasm.
  • Working from home sitting on a couch or bed – This is the biggest efficiency and productivity killer. Many people have experienced that when work is done from the couch/ sofa or bed, you are ought to overstretch yourself in comfortable surroundings and eventually get lazy or go to sleep.
  • Working simultaneously on work and personal front for household requirements – Big distraction. Do this only if you have a habit of working from home otherwise, this will take your productive time away and before you notice, it will be too late.
  • Get ready during the break or break out time – Do you do that while you are at work? I have experienced it personally. Like doing breakfast while taking breaks, or taking bath during the extended or lunch break. This will not only make you lazy but also, take a lot of your time away. just a five-letter word for this – A V O I D
  • Working from a dark room or making the room dark while working – This will turn your day into night and what most humans do at night? we sleep. Ensure that you have enough light in the room.
  • Working without TO-DOs for the day/ week – This is true even when you work from your workplace. As per one of the research done globally with over 8000 professionals from 12 different industries, When you work from without the list of your tasks for the day or week, you ought to slow down, your efficiency reduces and there are high chances that you start missing your deadlines.
  • Keeping items to munch during the work hours – This, too, is a distractor. While working from, at times, before you notice, you will develop the habit of munching something or other while working. This will not only add calories only but also spoil your health. While working from home, you are expected to maintain your health to deliver the best of your potential.
  • Not starting on time or Not taking enough or taking too many breaks – One of the biggest disadvantages of working from home to maintain the time table. Start and end your work on your designated office work hour. During this time, though we are at home, take appropriate breaks. Too many or too few breaks could also have an impact on your work and personal life.
  • Not getting exposed to the sun or natural air – Our body requires exposure to sun and natural air. This becomes possible when you commute to your workplace. However, while working from home, it takes this luxury away. This can lead to laziness and skin related issues.
  • Working from the same room where you have your family is around – This will have many impacts. Just imaging you are on a con-call with your boss or colleagues and they see people moving in your background. They may not be disturbing you, but it will surely take your attention away.

I hope you will avoid making the above mistakes and ensure to deliver what is expected in the most productive way possible.
