An American multinational information technology services and consulting company, Cognizant India had reported 6 per cent involuntary attrition in the September ending quarter of FY22, which also includes the sacking of employees due to failed background checks.

According to TOI, involuntary attrition can be thought of as a euphemism for sacking. Cognizant India Head Rajesh Nambiar said that few employees are sacked due to failed background checks and 6 per cent involuntary attrition in the quarter that ended September 30, 2022 also include that.

However, he did specify the exact number of employees sacked due to failed background checks.

“They don’t have the right background to continue in that role. We have no tolerance for anyone who doesn’t clear background checks,” Rajesh Nambiar further said.

Most Recently, Accenture in India fired a few employees as they presented fake documents and experience letters to obtain jobs with the organization.

Accenture in India said in a statement, “We have discovered an effort to use documentation and experience letters from fraudulent companies to obtain offers of employment from Accenture in India.”

“We have exited people who we confirmed took advantage of this scheme. We have taken action to ensure that there will be no impact on our ability to serve our clients”, the company said in the statement.

The company further said, “We are continuing to hire, and honour existing job offers for qualified candidates.”

Cognizant total number of employees stood at 3,49,400 after adding 8,100 employees during the quarter under review.

Its India headcount now stands at 2,55,000 associates, up approximately 12 percent on-year. For the third quarter (Q3) of the CY22 July-September period, the company reported attrition levels of 29 percent.

What is a background check?

A background check is a process that a company uses to verify that an individual is who they claim to be, and this provides an opportunity to check and confirm the validity of someone’s criminal record, education, employment history, and other activities from their past.

An employment background check typically takes place when someone applies for a job, but it can also happen at any time the employer deems necessary. A variety of methods are used to complete these checks including comprehensive database search and personal references.
