An American multinational technology company, Google laid off 453 employees from various departments in India.
As per reports, the employees from software developers, backend developers, cloud engineers, and digital marketers have been affected. Few of the employees took on LinkedIn to share their experiences.
Recently in January, Google parent Alphabet announced to sack 12,000 employees. The company CEO took responsibility for the layoffs. Now, former HR Operations Manager at Google, Deepti Krishnan, has shared the heartbreaking story of how she was fired from the company after working there for 15 years.
Recently, Deepti Krishnan, HR Operations Manager (Comp and Offer Letters), Google shared a LinkedIn post saying, “… and that’s a wrap! Having spent (almost) half my life (!) here, Google is the only employer I’ve ever known (such is the loyalty that even my internship was here :)). When I was abruptly disconnected from my video call only to realise I was staring at a ‘access denied’ page, I was in denial. I kept refreshing the page hoping it was my internet that was acting up. When the page refreshed I was now looking at an email informing me that my time here was up. An image that’ll likely stay with me for a long long time.”
“As much as I thought I was prepared for it, at that moment, things felt unreal. A feeling of having to break up from a 15 year long relationship in a matter of seconds. The emotional upheaval that followed is hard to describe in words. From the smallest of things triggering you to not knowing how to introduce yourself anymore when you meet new people, from realising you no longer have an inbox full of emails the next morning to watching the Google shuttle go past knowing you can no longer ride in it, the next few hours were likely the hardest hours of my life”, she added.
The post further said, “While I still don’t have the answer to ‘why me?’ and the deep sadness of being ‘cut off’ in seconds is not something I’ll get over easily, Google will always have a special place in my heart. Nothing can take away all that I’ve learned and become in the last 15 years and all the wonderful memories I’ve created along the way. Some of the ones nearest and dearest to me today are all folks I’ve met at Google (most importantly my incredible husband Navaneetha Krishna)”
“Thinking of what happened objectively, this is now giving me an opportunity to spend quality time with Nav (we’ve been in a long distance for over 5 years) and spend more time with family in our home in Bangalore that we so lovingly built a year ago. 2 days into this, Nav and I are off on a 2 week trip to Morocco to celebrate our 10th anniversary and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to get away from the chaos and enjoy a vacation without having to anxiously check my inbox and pings for anything urgent! :)”, she added.
She said, “I leave as a proud Googler (yes, I’ll continue to pick fights with folks who claim Google maps is inaccurate or that Youtube has too many ads!). Signing off with lots of love and gratitude. Thank you, Google!”
