Infosys, one of India’s leading IT services companies, has recently terminated another batch of trainees from its Mysuru campus.

This decision comes after the trainees failed to meet the qualifying criteria in their internal assessments.

While the move has sparked discussions, Infosys has also extended alternative career opportunities to the affected individuals, showcasing a balanced approach to addressing the situation.

Infosys Termination Details and Alternative Career Path Offered

On March 26, Infosys let go of 30-45 trainees who were unable to clear the final assessment of the “Foundation Skills Training Program.”

This follows a similar action taken two months earlier, where approximately 350 trainees were terminated for failing internal evaluations.

The affected trainees were onboarded after a delay of over 2.5 years, adding to the complexity of the situation.

Infosys has introduced a 12-week training program for potential roles in its Business Process Management (BPM) unit.

The company has committed to sponsoring the training for those who opt for this pathway.

This initiative aims to provide the trainees with an opportunity to transition into alternative roles within the organization.

Support Measures for Trainees and Compliance with Labour Laws

To ensure a smooth transition, Infosys has offered a one-month ex-gratia payment along with relieving letters to the affected trainees.

For those unwilling to pursue the BPM pathway, the company has arranged transportation from Mysuru to Bangalore and provided a standard travel allowance to their hometowns.

Additionally, trainees can avail of accommodation at the Employee Care Centre in Mysuru until their departure.

The Karnataka Labour Department has cleared Infosys of any labour law violations related to the termination of trainees.

Officials stated that the trainees were not regular employees but apprenticeship trainees, and therefore, labour laws governing layoffs do not apply in this case.

This clarification followed an investigation prompted by reports of trainee layoffs.
