Salesforce has laid off nearly 1000 employees

According to CNBC, an American cloud-based software company, Salesforce has laid off hundreds of people this week. However, The company did not share an exact number but said it was less than a thousand.

Overall, the technology giant plans to lay off as many as 2,500 workers, reported Protocol.

The company said in an official statement, “Our sales performance process drives accountability. Unfortunately, that can lead to some leaving the business, and we support them through their transition.”

“You can take from that what you will, but it sounds like if they aren’t making the revenue they want to, then they have to cut back and that’s what they did this week”, the statement added.

Salesforce had more than 73,000 employees before the layoffs. The Company’s strength had grown 36 percent over the last year, in keeping with the surging demands of customers. However, the layoffs have affected nearly less than 1% of the total workforce.

As per a Protocol report, about 90 contractual employees were laid off earlier and the Company has frozen hiring till next year.

Most Recently, Twitter laid off 50% of employee strength post the Elon Musk takeover. Followed by Meta laying off 11000 employees.

There are many leading IT companies that either laid off employees or froze new hiring including Snap, TikTok, HCL Technologies, and Google. On the other hand, ed-tech companies such as Byju’s, Vedantu, and many more have laid off many employees.

Salesforce, Inc. is an American cloud-based software company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It provides customer relationship management (CRM) software and applications focused on sales, customer service, marketing automation, analytics, and application development.

Salesforce’s continued growth makes it the first cloud computing company to reach US$1 billion in annual revenue by the fiscal year 2009 and the world’s largest enterprise software firm by 2022.
