According to WSJ, Walmart is undergoing a significant restructuring, with plans to slash hundreds of corporate positions while urging many remote employees to transition back to office settings.

Specifically, employees based in smaller offices located in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto are being directed to relocate to larger central hubs, including Walmart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, as well as offices in Hoboken or Southern California.

This strategic move aims to centralize operations and foster greater collaboration among teams. By consolidating resources and talent in key locations, Walmart seeks to enhance efficiency and innovation within its corporate ecosystem while adapting to evolving business needs.

Walmart Inc. is a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer helping people save money and live better – anytime and anywhere – in stores, online, and through their mobile devices.

With fiscal year 2024 revenue of $648 billion, Walmart employs approximately 2.1 million associates worldwide. The company continues to lead in sustainability, corporate philanthropy, and employment opportunity.

Recently, Indeed planned to layoff approximately 1,000 employees, constituting around 8% of its workforce to streamline its organizational structure. Luminar Technologies has announced a significant workforce reduction of approximately 20%.

Recently in 2024, Air India, Ola Cab, Google, and many more companies have laid off employees. Moreover, the companies may resort to layoffs for various reasons including Financial Challenges, Restructuring, Technological Changes, Technological Changes, and Performance Issues.

So far in 2024, there have been 544 layoffs at tech companies with 118,639 people impacted (879 people per day).
