Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a 3% increase in dearness allowance (DA).

Effective from July 2023, this decision aligns the state’s DA rate with that of central government employees, bringing it to a total of 53%.

Assam Government DA Hike: Key Details

The revised DA will be reflected in employees’ salaries starting December 2024.

Arrears will be disbursed in four equal installments, providing financial relief to the workforce.

This isn’t the first time Assam has extended a DA hike to its employees.

Earlier this year, in March, the state government implemented a 4% increase in the Dearness Allowance, raising it from 46% to 50%.

Additional Measures

The Assam Cabinet’s meeting yielded several other significant decisions:

Assam Tea Plantation Provident Fund Scheme: The Chief Minister announced the removal of the ₹15,000 monthly wage cap under this scheme.

Now, all tea garden workers, regardless of their earnings, are eligible for provident fund benefits.

The government allocated ₹205 crore for investments in Numaligarh Refinery Ltd, along with multiple road and irrigation projects under NABARD.

₹175 crore has been earmarked for medicine procurement in government hospitals.

₹150 crore will go toward state police infrastructure development.

The formation of an election department in Tamulpur district aims to enhance electoral processes and administration.

The state will observe ‘Bhasa Gaurav Week’ from November 3 to 9, celebrating Assamese as a classical language.

Educational institutions and social organizations will host events. During this week, they’ll come together to celebrate and engage in various activities.

Additionally, they will send thousands of letters of gratitude to the Prime Minister.

People across Assam will express their appreciation for the government’s initiatives and policies.
