Cognizant AI Strategy: 12,000 Roles Optimized, 14,000 Employees Return

Cognizant, a global leader in IT services and consulting, has made significant strides in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize its workforce.

The company’s AI-driven initiatives have freed up 12,000 roles, enabling teams to accomplish more with fewer personnel.

At the same time, Cognizant has seen 14,000 former employees rejoin the firm. This trend highlights a growing preference for its work culture and opportunities.

These developments were highlighted during an investor day event in the United States, where CEO Ravi Kumar S shared insights into the company’s strategic direction.

AI’s Role in Workforce Optimization at Cognizant

Cognizant’s AI efforts have transformed the way teams operate, with machines now writing 20% of the code.

This automation has allowed teams to focus on higher-value tasks, enhancing efficiency and productivity.

Ravi explained that this phenomenon aligns with Jevons Paradox.

The paradox suggests that increased efficiency in resource usage often results in higher overall demand for that resource.

By automating routine tasks, Cognizant has not only optimized its workforce but also created opportunities for innovation and growth.

The company’s CFO, Jatin Dalal, emphasized that AI-driven efficiency is reshaping the workforce landscape.

“Every incremental outcome you generate will require less human effort than what we are traditionally used to,” he stated.

This shift is expected to drive cost-based growth through offshore operations while maintaining high-growth scenarios in onsite-centric environments.

The Return of Former Employees

In addition to its AI advancements, Cognizant has seen 14,000 former employees rejoin the firm, constituting 5-7% of its lateral hires.

Ravi noted that an additional 20,000 ex-employees are in the queue to return, reflecting a strong affinity for the company’s culture and career prospects.

This trend underscores Cognizant’s ability to attract and retain talent, even in a competitive industry.

The return of former employees is attributed to Cognizant’s focus on employee engagement, professional development, and a supportive work environment.

The company’s Synapse initiative aims to train one million individuals in cutting-edge technologies like generative AI.

This program has further bolstered its reputation as a preferred employer.

Cognizant’s Synapse program is a cornerstone of its workforce strategy, designed to equip employees with the skills needed for the digital age.

The initiative offers training in areas such as AI, digital literacy, and emerging technologies, ensuring that employees are prepared for future challenges.

By collaborating with governments, academic institutions, and strategic partners, Cognizant is creating pathways to success for individuals across the globe.

The program’s impact is evident in the company’s ability to adapt to industry changes and maintain a competitive edge.

With over 2.3 lakh employees trained in AI, Cognizant is well-positioned to lead the way in workforce transformation.
