The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted land to IT firm Cognizant at a symbolic cost of 99 paise per acre. This follows a similar agreement with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) earlier this year.

Cognizant plans to invest ₹1,582 crore to set up an IT campus in Visakhapatnam over the next eight years.

Cognizant to Create 8,000 Jobs in Visakhapatnam

The upcoming campus is expected to employ around 8,000 professionals. The project is aimed at boosting Visakhapatnam’s digital sector and drawing more tech firms to the area. The facility is set to be operational by March 2029.

Located between Hyderabad and Chennai, Visakhapatnam is being developed as a center for IT activity. The city’s coastal setting, growing infrastructure, and available talent make it a strong option for companies looking to expand in India.

Support from the State Government

The land deal is part of a wider strategy by Andhra Pradesh to attract tech companies. The state is offering not just land but also policy support, digital infrastructure, and a favorable setup process.

Nara Lokesh, the state’s IT Minister, has been vocal about turning Visakhapatnam into a leading destination for tech firms.

Cognizant’s Facility: What to Expect

The new campus will handle global IT services and support. It will include modern workspaces, technology labs, and environmentally conscious design features. The focus will be on digital services and support for global clients.

Beyond direct employment, the project is expected to lift related sectors like housing, retail, transport, and education. The state sees this as a step toward broadening its economic base and moving away from its dependence on traditional industries.

The deals with TCS and Cognizant may pave the way for other global companies to consider Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam, in particular, is quickly gaining attention as a competitive choice for large-scale tech investments.
