Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) has launched a Stipend-Based Apprenticeship Programme (SAP) in collaboration with the Retail Sector Skill Council of India (RASCI).

The programme, unveiled on July 7 at the university’s Hyderabad campus, promises monthly stipends ranging from ₹7,000 to ₹24,000 for eligible students, marking a significant step toward skill-based education and youth empowerment.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Registrar Dr. L. Vijaya Krishna Reddy and RASCI Executive Director James Raphael, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani.

BRAOU becomes the first university in India to partner with RASCI for such a programme.

Apprenticeship Programme Highlights: Education Meets Industry

The SAP initiative is designed to blend academic theory with professional experience, offering students a chance to earn while they learn.

Key features include:

  • Monthly stipends between ₹7,000 and ₹24,000
  • Eligibility for students aged 18 to 28, including BRAOU graduates
  • Curriculum based on the “Four-Is” framework: Individual, Institution, Industry, and India
  • Focus on employability, entrepreneurship, and financial independence

RASCI officials emphasized that the programme will prepare students for workforce demands while fostering practical skills and industry exposure.

Leadership Vision: Skill-First Education for All

Prof. Chakrapani highlighted the university’s commitment to financial independence, skill-enhancing education.

He urged students to seize this opportunity, noting that the programme aligns with BRAOU’s mission to provide inclusive, job-oriented learning.

University officials plan to conduct outreach across study centers in Telangana, with updates and financial independence to be published on the BRAOU website.

RASCI’s Role: Industry-Academia Collaboration

James Raphael of RASCI described the programme as a student-centric initiative that aims to make every participant financially independent and professionally empowered.

The curriculum will integrate academic learning with hands-on training, ensuring students gain both knowledge and employability.

RASCI’s regional leaders, including Sameer Narsapur and Chanda Vadde, also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the importance of quality assurance and industry standards in shaping the programme’s success.
