Recently, Wipro Limited announced its plan to acquire the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit of HARMAN, a Samsung company.
The all-cash deal, valued at up to $375 million, aims to significantly enhance Wipro’s Engineering Research & Development (ER&D) service offerings and capabilities.
This acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by December 31, 2025.
Strategic Rationale and Expansion of Capabilities
The acquisition of DTS is a pivotal move for Wipro’s mission to deliver next-generation ER&D services. The DTS unit brings specialized engineering expertise, particularly in AI-powered digital and device engineering, including design-to-manufacturing.
This expertise spans high-growth sectors such as technology, industrial, aerospace, healthcare, and consumer industries, aligning with Wipro’s global footprint.
The integration of DTS’s strengths in domain-led design, connected products, and software platforms is expected to bolster Wipro’s offerings, allowing the company to provide end-to-end, AI-powered engineering services.
Integration of Talent and Operations
As part of the agreement, more than 5,600 DTS employees, including key leadership, will transition to Wipro.
This talent pool, spread across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, will be integrated into Wipro’s Engineering Global Business Line upon the completion of the acquisition.
The combined entity is poised to offer clients the agility and precision of a specialist provider with the global scale and resources of a market leader.
Future Outlook and Partnership
Wipro CEO and Managing Director, Srini Pallia, said that the acquisition will enhance the value delivered to clients by accelerating digital innovation, reducing time-to-market, and sharpening competitive advantage.
Christian Sobottka, CEO of HARMAN, stated that the agreement will allow the DTS business unit to scale faster and fully realize its growth potential as part of a company with deep engineering prowess.
In a move to further solidify the partnership, Wipro will also enter into a multi-year strategic agreement with both HARMAN and Samsung, creating new avenues for joint growth and transformation.
