Myntra set to hire 7,000 temp staff in the festive season

Flipkart-owned Myntra is hiring over 7,000 people in its supply chain and warehouses in the festive season. The company confirms that these are temporary hires for the festive sale period. E-commerce platforms usually pay around Rs 20,000 per month plus incentives for people hired for the sale season. Last year Myntra had hires 5000 temp sales personnel.

This year’s festive hiring is one of the largest ever by the online fashion retailer and comes after a recent round of fund infusion in the company. It has received a fresh capital infusion of $103 million (Rs 755 crore) from its Singapore-based parent entity, FK Myntra Holdings, as reported by ET last week.

Preparing up for its week-long festive sale starting later this week, the platform has also ramped up its customer contact centre by adding 1,000 people. For each of the employees working from home, the company has also handed out an allowance of Rs 20,000 to set up a home office ahead of the sale.

The company has also added 6,000 more MENSA (Myntra Extended Network for Service Augmentation) partners for last-mile deliveries. It now has 18,000 such partners who are expected fulfil 70% of the deliveries during the ‘Big Fashion Festival’.

“Our teams working remotely have innovated themselves like never before and are prepared with the tech capabilities, including others, to handle even 20,000 orders per minute, at peak,” Nagaram said.

Ahead of the sale event, Myntra had asked employees to take three days of leave, encouraging them to combine those with the weekends so that they got three extended weekends.

This was done to ensure that everybody gets a break from the daily work life before they could sprint into the festive season, said Nagaram. The company has also introduced ‘No Meeting Wednesdays’ where employees can focus on ideation.

Myntra is also offering reimbursement of costs towards COVID tests, hotel quarantine, and electronic and other remote working equipment for staff and their family.

More than 1,000 employees will be working remotely and be available round the clock during the sale event and are geared to handle 80 percent more traffic compared to the previous year’s festive sale, the CEO said.

Myntra’s upcoming Big Fashion Festival will be a 7-day long event (October 16 to 22), Diwali Sale- November 12 to 14, Winter Sale- December 1- 4, and Christmas Sales- December 23 to 25.
