Infosys Narayana Murthy’s Advice: No WFH or Moonlighting

An Indian multinational information technology company, Infosys founder, Narayana Murthy advised youngsters not to fall into the trap of working from home and moonlighting.

Narayana Murthy was speaking at the Asia Economic Dialogue organized by the Ministry of External Affairs. According to reports, Narayana Murthy said that as the country is growing and youngsters should work from the office instead of working from home. He also warned youngsters about moonlighting.

He also added India and China were of the same size in the late 1940s. Now, China has grown to be six times the size of India due to the culture it has imbibed.

According to reports, Narayana Murthy said, “For the first time in 300 years, the country has tasted some success, and we have to consolidate on the little success we have achieved and aim for bigger success.”

“There is no country in the world that has enhanced its prosperity, achieved economic progress, and earned the respect of the world without working hard…”, Narayana Murthy added

Narayana Murthy further said, “Anybody who has told you that work ethics are not important, hard work is not important and laziness is good, they are not your well-wishers.”

Earlier, Infosys said that moonlighting is not permitted according to the employees’ code of conduct of the company and described it with the taglines ‘No two-timing, no moonlighting’ and ‘No double lives.

In November 2022, Infosys has announced that the company will soon be resuming its work from the office in a three-phased manner. The company shared its plan for working from office:

  • In its first phase plan, the company would allow employees to “come to the office twice a week based as per their convenience.”
  • Followed by its second phase in which the employees would be allowed transfer or relocate to a branch office of their choice.
  • And Infosys in its final phase would involve the company drawing feedback from both the previous phases. So that the company can determine its hybrid work policy.

The company’s total employee count stood at 3,46,845 in Q3FY23 a net addition of 1,627 employees compared to 3,45,218 employees in Q2 of FY23.

In the Q3FY22 quarter Infosys, the headcount stood at 2,92,067 employees. The company communicated with its employees by saying that it is going to adopt a ‘three-phase work from office plan’.
