Bribes-for-jobs scam at TCS of nearly Rs 100 crore

In this recent event, An Indian multinational information technology (IT) services and consulting company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Bribes-for-jobs scam was reported.

According to a Mint report, a few senior officers at the company were accepting bribes from staffing firms for giving jobs to their candidates, for years. This has led to the company sacking four officials from its resource management group (RMG) and banning three staffing firms.

However, the company is yet to ascertain the scale of the irregularities, the people that have been involved in the scam may have earned at least Rs 100 crore through commissions.

In the last 3 years, the company hired 3 lakh workforce.

The company had set up a team of three executives, including the firm’s chief information security officer, Ajit Menon, to probe the allegations after the complaint.

After probing the above, TCS sent its head of recruitment on leave and sacked four officials from RMG (Resource Management Group). Chakravarthy has been debarred from coming to the office. Another official in the RBM division, Arun GK, has been sacked.

“The entire senior leadership is shocked,” the official told Mint.

Recently, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) saw a significant increase in sexual harassment complaints in FY 2022-23. There have been 49 cases of sexual harassment filed in FY23. The company has also seen a higher women attrition than that of men likely due to the return-to-office policy, the IT giant said in its Integrated Annual Report for 2022-23.

The company’s headcount as of March 31, 2023, stood at 6,14,795. In the previous quarter, TCS in Q3FY23 posted a decline of 2,197 people in its employee base, and TCS headcount stood at 613,974 as on December 31, 2022.
