TCS to link promotions with return to office: Report

According to TOI, Indian IT major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is linking promotions, hikes, and variable payout complying with its recent return-to-office policy.

The report also suggested that the IT giant is tracking the work from office attendance after which the company will be rolling out promotions.

The unit heads have written to their respective teams that assign grades.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said that its 65% of employees have already started working from office 3-5 days a week.

CEO and MD K Krithivasan said, “Our return to office policy worked well. Almost 65 percent of the associates are working from the office at least for three to five days. And we are improving the numbers.”

“We are sending positive incentives for them to come back to office on all five days. I’m sure we’ll get there most of the employees working from office in the next couple of quarters,” he added.

The company ended the hybrid work policy and asked its employees to work from the office 5 days a week from October 1, 2023 onwards. Until October 1, employees were attending the office for three days a week.

TCS chief human resources officer (CHRO) Milind Lakkad has explained why freshers are hired at low salaries. However, as there has been rising inflation and on the other hand there has been growth in the Indian IT sector but the fresher’s salaries have remained around Rs. 3-4 lakh per annum for years.

TCS CHRO Milind Lakkad said, “The freshers and existing employees who upskill can potentially double their salaries, with some skills earning up to Rs. 10 lakh.”

“We are paying based on the talent and we encourage people to come at different cadres of talent coming in”, he added.

“We have almost very close to Rs. 10 lakh for innovators. We are hiring people from NIITs and IITs where we pay a lot more”, he explained.

As per the recent report of TOI, Moreover, The company is offering digital compensation to freshers who’ve cleared courses assigned to them making them eligible for higher salaries beyond the Rs 3 lakh annual compensation.

TCS headcount dropped by 5,680 employees workforce stood at 603,305 as of December 31 with attrition at 13.3% for the last twelve months. The company’s workforce stood at 608,985 as of September 30, reported a dip of 6333 employees from the last quarter.
