With India’s increasing importance in the Citigroup universe—both as a driver of business growth and talent development—the bank is shifting several senior global roles to the country.

Citigroup has appointed Nisha Padbidri as Global Head of HR Partnership for Technology, Operations, HR, and Functions in line with this strategy.

This global leadership role will be based in Mumbai for the first time, reflecting Citi’s growing confidence in India’s leadership depth and strategic capabilities.

In her new role, she will lead HR business partnership for over 140,000 employees, representing more than 62% of Citi’s global workforce across 98 countries.

Three Decades of HR Leadership

Nisha began her Citi journey 29 years ago and has managed multiple senior leadership roles in HR across Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Her elevation reflects the maturing of India’s leadership pipeline and highlights the country’s pivotal role in Citi’s globally distributed talent model.

Focus on AI, Empathy, and Global Impact

As part of her new remit, Padbidri has emphasized the need to “integrate AI, automation, and data-driven decision-making with empathy and purpose.”

She believes the HR leadership mandate is now borderless, spanning inclusive talent strategies, workforce transformation, and human-centric innovation.

Nisha holds certifications from Cornell University in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration and from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and strategic HR excellence.

Citi’s decision to base this critical global role in India reinforces its vision of building future-ready, globally integrated talent centers, positioning the country as a strategic hub for innovation, leadership, and transformation.
