Cognizant Technology Solutions has appointed Thirumala (Thiru) Arohi as its first-ever Chief Learning Officer (CLO), marking a strategic move to deepen its commitment to enterprise learning and workforce transformation.
Thirumala joins Cognizant from Infosys, where he served as Executive Vice President and Head of Education, Training & Assessment, and Learning Platforms.
He brings over three decades of experience in IT services and learning innovation, including more than 28 years at Infosys.
The newly created CLO role signals Cognizant’s intent to elevate learning as a core business function amid rapid shifts in technology and talent needs.
Thirumala will report to Kathy Diaz, Chief People Officer, and lead the company’s global learning and development function.
Reimagining Learning in the Age of AI at Cognizant
Thirumala’s appointment comes at a time when Cognizant is doubling down on upskilling, especially in artificial intelligence.
His mandate includes reimagining learning programs and platforms, exploring new upskilling models and strategic partnerships, and driving thought leadership on talent, technology, and the future of work.
Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S has previously stated the company’s goal to train one million individuals in AI by 2026.
As of early 2025, Cognizant had already trained over 400,000 employees in AI-related skills.
Thirumala’s leadership is expected to accelerate this effort, integrating scalable learning ecosystems with business performance goals.
Arohi’s Career and Learning Philosophy
At Infosys, Thirumala was widely recognized for building robust learning platforms and driving innovation in digital education.
His earlier roles in delivery management gave him a business-centric perspective on how learning enables growth and operational excellence.
He also completed the Infosys Global Leadership Program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, further strengthening his strategic leadership capabilities.
Before joining Infosys, Thirumala held engineering and delivery roles at Sanghi Polyesters Ltd and Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board (APSEB), giving him a strong foundation in technical operations and client-centric service delivery.
