GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) India has announced the elevation of Harsh V. Trehan to the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Executive Vice President – Human Resources, effective July 1, 2025.

Harsh will now lead the HR function for GSK India’s pharmaceutical business, overseeing a workforce of approximately 4,000 employees, including a unionised segment, from the company’s headquarters in Mumbai.

This appointment comes as GSK continues to strengthen its employee engagement, leadership development, and workplace culture, aligning with its global mission to “get ahead of disease together.”

Harsh Trehan: A Career Built on HR Excellence

Harsh brings over 25 years of diverse HR leadership experience across industries such as FMCG, petroleum, aerospace, and services.

He began his career at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in 1999, later joining GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare in 2001, where he held multiple HR roles over a decade, including Regional HR Manager, Site HR Head, and General Manager – HR.

After a successful stint as Chief People Officer at Compass Group India, Harsh rejoined GSK in 2021 as People Services Lead at the Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Bengaluru.

He led global HR programs that focused on employee experience, operational efficiency, and HR innovation.

Organizational Context and Strategic Implications for GSK India

Chinmay Sharma, the former EVP-HR, has transitioned to a global role as HRBL, Performance Emerging Markets, based in London.

Harsh’s elevation follows this leadership change within GSK.

This leadership reshuffle reflects GSK’s broader strategy to globalize talent, streamline HR operations, and build future-ready capabilities.

Harsh is part of the India Leadership Team at GSK.

He will work closely with Managing Director Bhushan Akshikar, CFO Juby Chandy, and other senior leaders to drive HR transformation across the company’s India operations.
