Shashi Gumma Joins Landmark Group’s New Leadership

Landmark Group, a prominent player in the retail and hospitality sectors, has made a significant announcement: Shashi Gumma is now at the helm as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SPAR Hypermarket in India.

With a rich background in retail spanning over 25 years, Shashi brings a wealth of experience to this pivotal role.

Expressing his enthusiasm about his new role, Shashi shared, “SPAR has a strong brand image and recognition in the markets that it operates.”

He added, “It has a rich heritage, strong experience in Indian grocery market and has a passionate team of Professionals in India.”

Shashi further stated, “Am very keen and eager to build SPAR into a network that provides a great experience to shoppers and create strong patronage with them.

Shashi Gumma: A Retail Visionary

SPAR Hypermarket, part of the Landmark Group, operates under a license agreement with Spar International. Shashi acknowledges SPAR’s strong brand image and its recognition in the markets it serves.

His vision is clear: he aims to build SPAR into a network that provides outstanding experiences to shoppers. Whether it’s through innovative offerings, personalized services, or community engagement, SPAR is poised for growth.

B2C and B2B Expertise: Shashi Gumma’s journey in the retail world has been multifaceted. He has navigated both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) grocery formats.

His previous roles include serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Metro Wholesale in India and as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for More Supermarkets.

Transformational Leadership: Shashi is no stranger to driving change. He has spearheaded impactful projects, transforming organizations and enhancing customer experiences.

Landmark Group: A Retail Powerhouse

A 50-Year Journey: The Landmark Group’s story began five decades ago with a single store in Bahrain. Today, it operates over 2,200 retail stores, spanning the GCC, Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

Core Retail Concepts in India: In 1999, the Landmark Group entered India, revolutionizing retailing in the country. Its core retail concepts include Home Centre, Lifestyle, EasyBuy, Max, and, of course, SPAR.

License Agreement and Expansion: SPAR Hypermarket in India operates through a license agreement between the Dubai-based Landmark Group’s Max Hypermarkets India Pvt. Ltd. and SPAR International.

Currently, SPAR has 23 stores across ten cities, including Bengaluru, Mangalore, Udupi, Shimoga, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Chennai.

Serving Millions of Customers: The average store size is an impressive 40,000 sq. ft. Annually, SPAR caters to over 45 million customers through its retail outlets and e-commerce channels.
