Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services company, has introduced a new transfer policy offering financial incentives to employees willing to relocate to its Hubballi development center in Karnataka.

The initiative aims to strengthen Infosys’ presence in the tier-2 city, optimize the use of its modern infrastructure, and encourage local talent from the Mumbai-Karnataka region to explore career opportunities closer to home.

The company communicated the policy to employees via an internal email, highlighting Hubballi’s growth potential and positioning it as a strategic location for career development.

The policy applies to employees at band 2 and above, handling project delivery from any Infosys development center across India.

Infosys Financial Incentives for Employees

Infosys has structured the relocation incentives based on employee bands, ensuring financial support for those making the transition.

The breakdown of incentives is as follows:

Band LevelAt Time of TransferAt End of 24 Months
Band 7₹1.5 lakh₹8 lakh
Band 6₹1 lakh₹6 lakh
Band 5₹1 lakh₹5 lakh
Band 4₹50,000₹2.5 lakh
Band 3 & Below₹25,000₹1.25 lakh

Employees at band 3 and below will receive ₹25,000 at the time of relocation and an additional ₹25,000 every six months for two years, totaling ₹1.25 lakh at the end of 24 months.

Higher-level employees will receive larger incentives, ranging from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹8 lakh, including the initial relocation allowance.

Strategic Importance of Hubballi Campus

Infosys’ Hubballi development center is part of its expansion strategy in tier-2 cities, aligning with Karnataka’s Beyond Bengaluru campaign, which encourages corporates to invest in smaller cities to decongest Bengaluru and boost regional economies.

The company believes that Hubballi has immense growth potential, and the new transfer policy will help optimize the use of its infrastructure while reducing operational costs.

Employees who relocate will also have the option to continue working on their current projects from the Hubballi campus, ensuring business continuity.

Government Support and Industry Impact

Karnataka’s Industries and Infrastructure Minister, MB Patil, has welcomed Infosys’ initiative, stating that it will encourage local talent from the Kittur Karnataka region to explore job opportunities closer to home.

He emphasized that the move will strengthen community ties and contribute to regional development.

Infosys’ decision to expand operations in Hubballi aligns with broader industry trends, where IT companies are increasingly investing in tier-2 and tier-3 cities to diversify their workforce and reduce dependency on metro hubs.
