What are corporates doing to rescue India from Covid-19?

India enters its third day of the 21-day lockdown. Yesterday, the government unveiled a Rs 1.7 lakh crore stimulus to help those hit by the 21-day lockdown in the country.

The number of positive cases is pouring in and the total has crossed 700. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Srinagar, and Karnataka reported coronavirus deaths.

Amidst the coronavirus outbreak and 21-day lockdown, Indian corporates have come up with some relief and help the country to rescue from Coronavirus pandemic as Corporate Social Responsibility.

Here’s what companies and business leaders are doing:

  • Liquor firms Diageo and Radico Khaitan are gearing up to make hand sanitizers at their distilleries.
  • Reliance Industries will ramp up production of face masks, suits and garments for healthcare workers, and import test kits.
  • Mahindra Group has offered to manufacture ventilators and provide temporary quarantine facilities at its resorts. 
  • Smartphone maker Xiaomi will donate N95 masks and protective suits to Karnataka, Delhi and Punjab governments, hospitals and police departments.
  • Tata Group will pay full wages to its temporary workers and daily-wage earners for March and April.
  • Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal is committing Rs. 100 crore to fight Covid-19.
  • Paytm has earmarked Rs. 5 crore for innovators developing medical solutions. Founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma will forego 2 months’ salary.
  • Smartphone maker Vivo has donated over one lakh masks to healthcare workers in Maharashtra.
  • Parle will donate 3 crore packets of biscuits in the next three weeks especially to the needy through the government agencies.
