Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has called upon industry leaders to devise ways to skill, train, and provide employment opportunities to physically impaired citizens.

Speaking at the BML Munjal Awards 2024 in New Delhi, Piyush emphasized the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in the workforce, urging industries to make skill development available in Braille and for those with other physical impairments.

Piyush Goyal Calls for Inclusivity and Skilling Initiatives

Piyush’s address highlighted the need for industries to identify the strengths of disabled individuals and make them employable.

He cited the example of SEEPZ in Mumbai, where 1,500 visually impaired children are trained by the Gem and Jewellery sector.

These children are being prepared for jobs in the same industry.

Piyush suggested that grievance centres and customer support centres are areas where divyangjans (persons with disabilities) can work, and even in sports, promoting divyangjan sports festivals to encourage participation.

The minister evoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for skilling the nation and enabling physically impaired citizens.

He stressed the need to develop certain skills that would help them become independent.

Piyush lauded the efforts of the Hero Group for releasing a book titled “The Making of Hero” in Braille. He believes this book will inspire divyangjans to dream big.

He expressed hope that the book will inspire many entrepreneurs to become job creators.

This, in turn, will contribute to the collective commitment of 1.4 billion people to take India to greater heights.

Industry’s Role

Piyush Goyal urged industry leaders to engage startups and younger organizations in the journey towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

He emphasized that the collective commitment of the industry is crucial for achieving this goal.

By skilling and providing job opportunities to disabled individuals, industries can play a significant role in driving economic growth and social inclusion.
