Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, presided over a significant inter-ministerial roundtable in New Delhi today.

The central focus of this high-level meeting was to establish a systematic approach for recording comprehensive employment data. This is a critical outcome of various government schemes, programs, and projects.

Through collaboration across Ministries and Departments, the goal is to create a holistic picture of employment generation in the country.

Key Highlights:

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the youth and employment-centric nature of the Union Budget for 2024-25. Within this context, he elaborated on the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) package. Which is an innovative initiative comprising three schemes designed to benefit both employers and employees while promoting job creation.

Additionally, the budget introduced several labor reforms, including the enhancement of the eShram portal and the revamping of the Samadhan and Shram Suvidha Portals.

Despite the significant employment generation resulting from various government initiatives, data currently exist in isolated silos. Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the need to integrate multiple data sources across different ministries and departments.

By doing so, the government aims to develop a comprehensive system that captures the entire spectrum of employment opportunities in the country.

This integration will provide policymakers with a clearer understanding of employment trends and facilitate informed decision-making.

Skilling the Workforce & Industry Participation – Employment Data

To achieve this ambitious goal, Dr. Mandaviya proposed the formation of a Core Group. Comprising representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Industry, this group will meet regularly to build synergies and integrate existing efforts.

By fostering collaboration, the Core Group aims to bridge gaps and ensure a more cohesive approach to employment data collection and analysis.

Recognizing the industry’s demand for skilled workers, Dr. Mandaviya stressed the importance of equipping young people with relevant skill sets and professional qualifications.

Industry bodies were encouraged to identify potential candidates and offer internship opportunities. This dual approach—preparing the youth and meeting industry demands—will contribute to sustainable employment growth and overall economic development.

The roundtable, chaired by Union Minister witnessed active participation from senior officials representing 19 different Ministries and Departments.

Industry associations, including the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), also contributed valuable insights during the brainstorming session.

Their collective expertise will play a crucial role in shaping effective policies and strategies for employment generation.

Summing Up!

In summary, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya’s inter-ministerial roundtable marks a significant step toward a more integrated and data-driven approach to employment.

By breaking down silos, fostering collaboration, and prioritizing skill development, the government aims to create a brighter future for India’s workforce.
