EPFO Officers Appeal for IT Infrastructure Overhaul to Minister

The EPFO Association has urgently appealed to the Union Labour Minister to enhance the IT infrastructure of the retirement fund body.

In a letter sent earlier this week, the EPFO officers highlighted ongoing requests for upgrading the EPF’s IT systems, including software, hardware, and IT manpower. These deficiencies have severely strained EPF personnel and negatively impacted service delivery.

The EPFOA reported that the situation has deteriorated, with daily accounts of significant system failures from officers and offices. The current IT infrastructure’s inadequacies have caused substantial service bottlenecks, hindering the efficiency of EPF operations.

The EPFO’s application software is a critical component of its service delivery system, used by regional offices to process and adjudicate member claims.

Recently, this software has become highly unstable, experiencing frequent outages, slowdowns, involuntary user logouts, and complete system failures. While the EPFO management previously attributed these issues to concurrent user logins, system crashes now occur even during off-peak hours, indicating deeper problems.

Despite recognizing the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the EPFO’s application software, the implementation has been repeatedly delayed without clear reasons.

The EPFOA pointed out that the EPFO, though financially independent from government administrative funding, lags behind other departments like the Income Tax department in technological advancements. This discrepancy highlights a systemic failure to address the critical situation.

The EPFOA urged the minister to pay immediate attention to the frustrations of EPFO officers and staff due to persistent software deficiencies and perceived upper management unresponsiveness.

The association called for a comprehensive evaluation of the software by leading industry experts to diagnose the root causes and develop a modern solution fitting for the EPFO, the world’s largest social security organization.

For the past thirty months, the EPFOA has consistently raised these critical IT infrastructure issues with the CPFC.
