HR Professional’s job is bigger than that of a CEO’s role

SHRM India, the world’s largest HR organisation today commenced its two-day mega event – ‘SHRMIAC23 Annual Conference & Expo’ at the Taj Palace, New Delhi.

In the inaugural session on day one, Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa at the Government of India in conversation with D. Shivakumar, Conference Chair – SHRMIAC23 & Operating Partner at Advent International Private Equity, threw light on his groundbreaking book “Made in India: 75 Years of Business and Enterprise’ and discussed how the bestseller captures the potent and powerful journey of Indian business and enterprise.

He succinctly offered a comprehensive survey of the history and culture of business from colonial times to the present.

“HR in person is somebody who is really pushing to refine the company. Your (HR Professional’s) job is much bigger; your job is even bigger than that of a CEO’s role.

An HR should be able to bring in new balance and new energy. HR should be able to reshape the future of the company, said G20 Sherpa Mr. Amitabh Kant addressing the inaugural session of the SHRM India Annual Conference & Expo 2023.

Scheduled on 12th – 13th October 2023, the conference will witness a huge gathering of more than 4,500+ HR & Leaders, 900+ CXOs, 150+ Speakers, and over 70+ Sessions comprising more than 15+ Learning Hours. With the theme ‘Drive Change’, the conference will delve deep into various topics related to the workplace.

Ms. Achal Khanna, CEO, SHRM India, APAC & MENA, gave a warm welcome to all the attendees briefing them on how best they can ‘drive’ a ‘change’ by accessing trending content from the event, upgrading their knowledge, seizing fresh ideas, revitalizing their strategy, gaining global exposure and finally becoming agents of change themselves.

Ms. Khanna said, ” Drive Change’ is a call to action to HR professionals to enact positive change in their organisations as a means of supporting workers in the ever-changing landscape of work. Like the previous editions, this year, the SHRMTECH23 was aimed towards ‘Drive Change’ amplifying how SHRM’s current focus and resources continue to help HR professionals at all levels to drive a change in their daily work, in their businesses and throughout their careers. Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Promoter & Executive Vice Chairman, Info Edge, in conversation with M Damodaran, former chairman, SEBI, led an engaging session titled “Level Up & Elevate: Being Future-ready”.

The brightest minds in business, who, through their transparent knowledge-sharing of personal experiences and practical applications, helped the HR Leaders learn how best to increase their company performance. Sanjeev believes that with access to vast wisdom and ground-breaking ideas, leaders can attract, hire and retain the best talent and review the overall employee value proposition.

Ankit Aggarwal, Founder & CEO, Unstop, in his spotlight session on “Unlocking the Future of Talent: Your Playground of Opportunity” discussed how technology holds the key to strategizing to hire the right talent much easier.

The session examined hiring and talent from a fresh perspective that keeps technology and skills at the forefront of locating the best employees.

The HR attendees also learned how to engage a broader talent pool with futuristic engagements that allow the best talent of today to display their superior skills.

The panel discussion on “Leadership Amid Change: Building Organisational Resilience from the Inside Out” brought together experts from various fields to discuss how we have all been forced to adapt the way we live, work and interact with others, which has changed the world both professionally and personally.

The panel featured Pranjal Sharma, Economic Analyst, Advisor & Author – The Next New, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur and Prof. Madan Pillutla, Dean & Professor – Organisational Behaviour, Indian School of Business.

The discussions centred on the responsibility as leaders to support staff members who are struggling, provide them with the resources, and concentrate on creating teams and leaders to improve worker performance.

The discussion threw a spotlight on improving one’s capacity to successfully navigate a culture of change, creating collaboration and leading.

There were two report launches happened at the conference. One was on the “state of global workplace culture report and another was on “Unlocking the Value: People Analytics Maturity, India 2023”.

SHRM strongly believes that a positive influence begins with a vision, connections, dedication, and availability of the proper tools. Designed to establish an environment to lead and ‘drive change’, experiences questioning the status quo, spurring creativity and helping the HR leaders visualize the future awaited them on Day Two of #SHRMIAC23.

The day ended with a gala night where SHRM HR excellence awards were conferred on organisations for their pioneering and innovative people management practices.
