India Inc, in its pursuit of fostering gender diversity, is now extending its efforts to temporary hiring during peak periods, especially the festive season.

Sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, consumer durables, banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) are actively embracing this trend.

Companies recognize the value of having more women workers in their workforce and are taking steps to attract and retain female talent.

The Surge in Diversity Hires

Diversity hires have witnessed a significant surge, ranging from 15% to 35%. In sectors like e-commerce and retail, the rise is nearly twofold.

Women workers tend to exhibit lower attrition rates and absenteeism, contributing to higher productivity during critical periods like the festive season.

Manu Saigal, Director-General Staffing at Adecco India, reports that these factors have led to a remarkable 35% increase in diversity hiring compared to last year’s 19%.

Multinationals Leading the Way

The increased hiring of temporary women workers is primarily driven by multinationals with well-defined diversity and inclusion policies. However, it’s not limited to them.

Companies across various sectors are recognizing the benefits of gender diversity.

Notably, organizations in sectors known for their commitment to gender equality—such as electronics manufacturing, technology, e-commerce, retail, FMCG, logistics, tourism, hospitality, and aviation—are actively prioritizing inclusive practices.

Festive Hiring: Sector-Specific Initiatives

Let’s take a closer look at how different sectors are approaching gender diversity in temporary hiring:

Mobile and Electronics Makers: At Quess Staffing, mobile and electronics manufacturers are leading the charge. These companies recognize the importance of having a balanced workforce and are actively hiring women for temporary roles.

Automotive Sector: Automotive firms are setting ambitious targets for gender diversity. While some companies that rely on assembly line operators are aiming for 100% women hires, others are targeting at least 30% representation.

Retail: The retail segment has set specific benchmarks for women in shop promoter roles. These roles are now being filled by women at around 40%, emphasizing the industry’s commitment to diversity.

E-Commerce: These companies are making concerted efforts to encourage female participation in the workforce. They are hiring 60% females for night shifts, demonstrating their commitment to creating a safe and inclusive work environment.
