State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender, has announced plans to hire approximately 3,500 officers over the next five months.
This large-scale recruitment drive is aimed at bolstering the bank’s operational capacity, enhancing customer service, and supporting its growing focus on digital and technology-driven banking services.
The hiring initiative includes positions for Probationary Officers (POs), Specialist Officers (SOs), and Circle-Based Officers (CBOs).
According to Kishore Kumar Poludasu, SBI’s Deputy Managing Director (HR) and Chief Development Officer, the bank has already recruited 505 POs in June 2025, and the process to fill an additional 541 PO vacancies is currently underway.
Focus on Technology and Cybersecurity Roles
A significant portion of the new hires will be Specialist Officers, particularly in IT and cybersecurity domains.
SBI has already selected around 1,300 officers for these roles, reflecting the bank’s commitment to strengthening its digital infrastructure and safeguarding customer data.
The recruitment of SOs is part of SBI’s broader strategy to modernize its operations and meet the demands of a rapidly evolving financial ecosystem.
These roles are expected to support the bank’s initiatives in digital banking, data analytics, and cyber risk management.
SBI Circle-Based Officers to Enhance Regional Reach
In addition to POs and SOs, SBI is considering the recruitment of approximately 3,000 Circle-Based Officers.
The bank will deploy these officers across various regions to improve service delivery and enhance customer engagement at the local level.
The recruitment process for CBOs will conclude within the current financial year.
Circle-Based Officers play a crucial role in managing branch operations, ensuring compliance, and driving business growth in their respective zones.
Their presence is vital for maintaining SBI’s extensive network of over 22,000 branches across India.
SBI Three-Stage Selection Process for Probationary Officers
The recruitment process for Probationary Officers includes three stages.
These are the preliminary examination, main examination, and a final round with a psychometric test and interviews.
This rigorous selection framework ensures that candidates possess the necessary analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills required for the role.
The bank has already received applications for the current PO vacancies and plans to complete the selection process within the stipulated timeline.
Commitment to Workforce Diversity and Growth
SBI’s recruitment drive is part of a broader plan to hire around 18,000 employees across categories during the financial year.
The bank is working to increase the representation of women in its workforce. It aims to reach 30 percent within the next five years.
The organization is implementing various programs to support women employees and foster leadership opportunities.
This hiring initiative highlights SBI’s commitment to building a future-ready workforce.
The goal is to equip employees to navigate the challenges of digital transformation and customer-centric banking.
