Siemens Limited, a global leader in technology and engineering solutions, has announced ambitious expansion plans in India.

The company’s recent announcement of a capital expenditure (CAPEX) exceeding ₹1,000 crore signals its commitment to growth and innovation.

Let’s understand the details of this significant development.

Goa: State-of-the-Art Gas Insulated Switchgear and Clean Air GIS

Siemens Limited’s Smart Infrastructure Business is set to expand its factory footprint in Goa. With an investment of ₹333 crore, this will be the largest investment by Siemens in the state. The Goa factory will bring to market cutting-edge Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Clean Air GIS (Blue GIS) technologies.

These advanced products cater to critical sectors such as data centers, metro rail, oil & gas, steel, and transmission & distribution. As a result of this expansion, Siemens will create job opportunities for skilled professionals in Goa, contributing to the local economy and talent pool.

Aurangabad: Metro Train Manufacturing Facility

Sustainable transportation is a key enabler for modern cities. To address the growing demand for metro rail networks globally, Siemens’ Mobility Business is investing ₹186 crore to establish a state-of-the-art Metro train manufacturing facility in Aurangabad.

This facility, in addition to the existing bogie manufacturing unit at the same location, will play a pivotal role in meeting the global demand for metro systems. The facility will employ skilled technical personnel and adapt to changing customer requirements.

As an export hub for Metro Turnkey projects, it will not only boost local employment but also contribute to Siemens’ global mobility solutions.

Sustainability and Localization

Both the Goa and Aurangabad factories are designed as sustainable, environmentally conscious facilities. They adhere to LEED Gold standards, ensuring energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact. Key features include:

  • Carbon Neutrality: The factories offset their carbon footprint through various sustainable technologies.
  • Water Positivity: Rainwater harvesting and water management systems make them water-positive.
  • Circular Construction: Recycled materials and circular construction techniques are employed.
  • Solar Power: Photovoltaic solar panels contribute to clean energy generation.
  • Microgrid and EV Charging: The facilities incorporate microgrid systems and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
