Mariana Kobayashi, an account executive who was fired at LinkedIn secured a job at Google, all thanks to a video resume that went viral.

Mariana Kobayashi took to LinkedIn to share her journey and how she created the video. “I landed an interview at Google through a video. Here’s step-by-step how that happened.”

“The best way to stand out when applying for a job is thinking about what everyone else is doing… and doing something else (in anything in life. Please steal my method, and GOOD LUCK!”, she added.

She also explained, “I’m ready for a new chapter at Google after wrapping up 8 months of traveling the world in Colombia. I feel calm, recharged, and excited for whatever life throws my way because challenges are what make life so entertaining. Lay-offs, no lay-offs, who wants a boring life? (Ok, no more lay-offs, please).”

4 things I have taken with me over the last 8 months:

  1. Amor fati: things will happen to you. Whatever form or shape they take, it will be good (or at least necessary). Everything will teach you a lesson.
  2. Stoicism is always the answer: it’s easier said than done, but remaining calm in a crisis allows things to unfold the way they’re supposed to. Take action whenever possible, and accept the rest as part of the plot.
  3. Life is good: where we put our attention dictates our reality (i.e., our thoughts). I could have labeled lay-offs as the worst thing that could have happened to me, and even though I fell into a micro-depression, I turned it into an opportunity to reinvent myself.
  4. [Relationships] are the most powerful weapon that you can use to change [yourself]. I’ll say it again and again: We’re social beings, healthy relationships are the foundation of everything we do.
