India’s largest passenger airline, IndiGo aircraft maintenance technicians went on sick leave in Hyderabad and Delhi to protest against their low salaries.

Some technicians did not report for the night shift at Hyderabad on July 8. The company said that it is taking adequate measures and there were no delays or disruptions in flight schedules due to technical trouble.

This came after several number crew members took mass leave. The IndiGo crew members took mass Sick Leave on Air India recruitment day.

On the same day when Air India conducted a recruitment drive for similar roles across different centers. This caused several delays in the Flights. The Flight operations at the airline returned to normal on Sunday.

In comparison, to other airline groups a majority of the Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India flights left on time.

The company had cut the salaries of a large section of its employees when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak. IndiGo had effected a 28% salary cut for pilots in 2020 following Covid-led restrictions. However, the salaries remain lower than the pre-Covid levels.

Earlier, IndiGo had hiked the salaries by 8% for the second time in 2022. This will be effective from August 1. However, even after Thursday’s 8% increase, the salaries remain lower than the pre-Covid levels.

IndiGo has also decided to restore overtime allowance for pilots to the pre-Covid level. Earlier, the airline on March 31 announced that the pilots’ salaries have been increased by 8 percent given the continuous steady flight operations.

Since the airline’s inception in August 2006, the organization has grown from a carrier with one plane to a fleet of 280 aircraft today.

A uniform fleet for each type of operation, high operational reliability, and award-winning service make it one of the most reliable airlines in the world.

IndiGo has a total destination count of 90+ destinations with 70+ domestic destinations and 20+ International destinations.
