Air India extends VRS offer for non-flying staff till May 31

TATA-Group-owned, Air India has announced to extend the last date to apply for Voluntary Retirement Scheme(VRS) for its employees till May 31. Previously, The airline was accepting the offer for voluntary retirement till April 30.

In a letter written by a top official of Air India said, “This is in reference to the Organizational Announcement dated 17 March 2023 on the subject.”

“In this regard, please note that the last date to apply for Voluntary Retirement in terms of the above Organizational Announcement for all the eligible employees has been extended till 31 May 2023″, the letter said.

“However, the acceptance of application and the date of release will continue to be subject to management’s discretion,” the letter mentioned

Earlier, Air India announced a voluntary retirement scheme for its non-flying staff. This was the second time the company was offering VRS to employees.

Earlier, The chief human resources Suresh Dutt Tripathi of Air India had sent a communication to the staff.

The communication said, “The employees who apply for voluntary retirement from 17th March 2023 to 30th April 2023 will also be provided with an ex-gratia amount as a one-time benefit.

“Eligible employees who apply up to 31st March 2023 will receive Rs 1 lakh over and above the ex-gratia amount,” the communication added.

The employees eligible for voluntary retirement were:

  • Firstly, the employees in the administrative and unskilled categories who have served continuously for at least five years are eligible.
  • Secondly, the employees are permanent general cadre officers who have reached the age of 40 or older and have served the airline for a minimum of five years continuously. 

Additionally, according to reports a total of around 2,100 employees will be eligible to avail of the latest voluntary retirement offer. Currently, the airline has a staff strength of about 11,000 people, including flying and non-flying staff.
