Amazon India has announced the launch of 500 additional scholarships for female engineering students under its Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) program.

The scholarships, aimed at students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, will support the 2025–2029 academic cycle and build on the success of the program’s earlier cohorts.

The announcement coincides with the graduation of the first batch of AFE scholars, over 80% of whom have secured competitive roles at Fortune 500 companies, including full-time positions at Amazon itself.

Holistic Support for Aspiring Women Engineers

The AFE scholarship offers a comprehensive support package designed to address both financial and developmental barriers faced by women in tech.

Each selected scholar will receive:

  • Financial assistance of ₹2 lakh over four years
  • A personal laptop
  • Specialized technical training through bootcamps
  • Paid internship opportunities at Amazon
  • One-on-one career mentorship from experienced Amazon engineers

This multi-pronged approach ensures that students not only gain access to education but also receive the tools, exposure, and guidance needed to succeed in the tech industry.

Amazon Reaching Talent in Tier-2 and Tier-3 Cities

The program has made a notable impact in smaller towns and rural regions across India.

Many scholars are first-generation college students from places like Latur in Maharashtra and Chaibasa in Jharkhand.

Amazon India’s Future Engineer Lead, Prateek Agarwal, emphasized the transformative nature of the initiative: “Seeing these scholars—many of whom are first-generation college graduates—transform into confident tech professionals demonstrates the impact of providing equal opportunities in education and career development”.

One such success story is Samala Keerthi, a graduate from Telangana whose father runs a small kirana shop.

She joined Amazon full-time as a Software Development Engineer after completing her internship.

“The scholarship didn’t just provide financial support—it gave me confidence, mentorship, and real-world experience that transformed my career,” she said.

Rigorous Selection Process in Partnership with FFE

Amazon has partnered with the Foundation for Excellence (FFE), a non-profit organization focused on empowering students from low-income families.

FFE oversees the selection process, which evaluates candidates based on academic merit, financial need, and leadership potential.

Ram Kolavennu, CEO of FFE, highlighted the program’s long-term impact: “By integrating financial support, mentorship, skills development, and real-world experience at a global technology leader like Amazon, this program empowers talented young women from low-income backgrounds with transformative opportunities in technology”.

Applications for the 2025–2029 cycle opened on August 18 and will remain open until November 30, 2025.

Eligible students enrolled in computer science and related engineering programs can apply through the Amazon Future Engineer scholarship portal.
