An American multinational corporation and technology company, Apple plans to significantly expand in India by leveraging local vendors, aiming to employ approximately 500,000 employees from the country within the next three years.

Apple has plans to scale up production in India by over five-fold to around $40 billion (about 3.32 lakh crore) in the next 4-5 years.

This surge in hiring represents a substantial increase from the current workforce of 150,000 Apple employees in India, with most of them employed through the two plants operated by Tata Electronics.

This move underscores Apple’s commitment to bolstering its presence in the Indian market and tapping into the nation’s vast pool of talent.

By scaling up production and increasing employment opportunities, Apple aims to deepen its roots in India’s burgeoning tech landscape while simultaneously benefiting from the country’s skilled workforce and favorable manufacturing ecosystem. However, the company has not provided a comment regarding the forecast.

“Apple is accelerating hiring in India. At a conservative estimate, it is going to employ five lakh people in the next three years through its vendors and components suppliers,” a senior government officer told PTI.

Tata Group is poised to potentially assume control of Pegatron Corp.’s iPhone production in India as early as next month, potentially deepening Apple’s dependence on Indian suppliers.

According to media reports, Tata Group is in advanced negotiations with Pegatron, with Tata Electronics Ltd. slated to oversee Pegatron’s operations post-acquisition.

This development signals a significant step in India’s role within Apple’s global supply chain, potentially amplifying the country’s importance as a manufacturing hub for the tech giant.

In 2023, Apple opened a new store located in India’s capital New Delhi, and the company has it’s first retail location in India at Mumbai’s bustling Bandra Kurla Complex financial, arts, and entertainment district.
