A multinational technology company, IBM India has asserted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will generate more jobs than it displaces.

According to ET report, Sandip Patel, Managing Director, IBM India/South Asia said, “I firmly believe AI will create more jobs than it destroys. People are usually very scared when imagining entirely new jobs.”

“For example, take the Internet, when the Internet came right, and you had web publishing and all things that were web-enabled, it led to job decline in certain sectors like newspaper printing,” Sandip Patel added.

Recently, IBM and GSMA have announced a new collaboration to support the adoption and skills of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

This program will benefit the people from the telecom industry. Through this collaboration both the companies have launched GSMA Advance’s AI Training program and the GSMA Foundry Generative AI program.

A digital version of the program will be available to help address both the business strategy and technology fundamentals of Generative AI.

Moreover, the company and the Commissionerate of Technical Education (CTE Gujarat) of the Government of Gujarat, have collaborated through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster technical and professional education in Gujarat.

IBM to skill 30 million people by 2023 and train 2 million learners in AI by the end of 2026, the collaboration with CTE Gujarat contributes to addressing the prevailing skills gap in the global workforce.

The company aims to empower youth and job seekers, enabling them to acquire the technical and professional skills essential for entering or re-entering the workforce.

Recently, IBM CHRO said that the company expects nearly 7,800 jobs could be replaced by artificial intelligence (AI).

However, CEO Arvind Krishna has specified that hiring specifically in back-office functions such as human resources will be suspended or slowed. In 2023, he said, the company expects that 30% of non-customer-facing roles could be replaced by AI and automation in five years.
