The Maharashtra State Government Labour Department has issued a notice against IT major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for allegedly forcing more than 2,000 employees to relocate to different cities without proper prior notice.

The action was taken by Labour Office after a complaint was filed by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a union representing IT workers.

In a notice, TCS representatives are asked to meet labour officials on January 18, 2024, at noon. NITES has received over 300 complaints against TCS for transferring employees to different cities without proper notice.

According to CNBC, NITES, President, Harpreet Singh Saluja said. “We have urged the Ministry of Labour and Employment to investigate TCS’s actions and take appropriate measures to protect IT workers from such unethical practices,”

“NITES has received more than 180 complaints that TCS has been systematically forcing more than 2,000 employees to transfer to different cities without proper notice or consultation, causing immense hardship for them and their families.” He added.

“The company has threatened the employees that failure to comply with the transfer directions will result in disciplinary actions. The company is ignoring all the financial hardship, family disruption, stress, and anxiety that these forced transfers cause to employees,” he further added.

According to media reports, in November, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) sent sudden transfer notices to its employees after ending Work From Home policy and asked employees to join the assigned location within 15 days. However, employees will be eligible for reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses.

Tata Consultancy Services Limited (TCS) will announce its results for the Third Quarter of FY 2024, which ended December 31, on Thursday, January 11, 2024, after-market trading hours.
