Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has recently faced backlash from former employees over its latest round of layoffs and the company’s leadership culture.

The layoffs, which affected approximately 3,600 employees across Europe, Asia, and the US, have been criticized for targeting employees who had recently returned from leaves of absence.

Meta claimed that the layoffs were performance-based, targeting employees who had failed to meet expectations.

However, several former employees have disputed this claim, stating that they had consistently received positive performance reviews.

One such employee is Elana Reman Safner, who worked as a product counsel for MetaWorks.

She expressed her frustration on LinkedIn, stating that she was laid off despite having a history of strong performance reviews.

Meta Leadership Culture Under Scrutiny

The leadership culture at Meta has also come under scrutiny.

Critics have pointed to rigid career paths and a bureaucratic internal environment, including lengthy documentation and decision-making processes.

Some former employees have described the company’s leadership as having a “newfound masculine energy.”

This phrase refers to a controversial remark made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a podcast interview.

Adding to the controversy, Meta recently ended its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program.

This move has been viewed by some as part of a strategic pivot away from social initiatives to focus more on cost-cutting and streamlining operations.

The dissolution of the DEI program has further fueled criticism from former employees, who feel that the company is prioritizing operational efficiency over employee well-being.

Impact on Employees and Reactions

The layoffs have had a significant impact on employees, particularly those who had recently returned from leaves of absence.

Many have voiced their discontent on social media, sharing stories of sudden dismissals and a lack of transparency.

Some employees have expressed concerns about how these layoffs will affect their future job prospects.

They worry that being laid off despite positive performance reviews could reflect poorly on their resumes.

Former employees have taken to social media to share their experiences and criticize Meta’s handling of the layoffs.

Many have highlighted the stress and mental overload they experienced while working at the company. They also pointed out the impact of rigid career paths and bureaucratic processes.

Some have also expressed disappointment in the company’s leadership, particularly Mark Zuckerberg’s attitude towards beloved products and employees.
