Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, and Sudha Murty spoke at the book launch event for Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s “An Uncommon Love: The Early Life of Sudha and Narayana Murthy.

While addressing the event he focused that he expresses remorse for not adequately recognizing ‘smart’ employees at Infosys.

He said as quoted by NDTV, “There were several extremely smart early adopters of Infosys whom I could not award the kind of stock I gave to my co-founders.”

“Their contribution was more or as much as mine. I only wish I had thought about it very carefully and those extraordinary people also benefited,” he added.

Furthermore, in January 2024, he openly expressed his main regret: not involving his wife Sudha Murty in Infosys, the technology behemoth co-founded by him and six others. He acknowledged that she was actually “more qualified” than all seven of them.

In November, Narayana Murthy was in conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath at the Bengaluru Tech Summit.

Narayana Murthy said, “The maximum percentage of local people that you can employ in an industry like software services is about 60%.”

“So, it means that the rest of the talent will inevitably come from other states in India and maybe a small percentage from developed countries”, he said.

“So, the first task of a good public governance system for Bengaluru to become even stronger is to provide total freedom to start English medium schools”, he added.

He further noted, “The governments needed to complete infrastructure projects on priority and that work in the industry should be done in three shifts instead of one. In other nations that have high aspirations, people work two shifts.”

In October he suggested that Indian youngsters should work 70 hours a week.
